Brief overview
ZZZ (pronounced Triple Z) is a new, up-and-coming, boutique cosmetic brand. They have been working hard behind the scenes on their first range of products; a collection of creams and mist sprays to aid a restful night’s sleep. Currently in the early stages of product and brand development, ZZZ only have their brand finalised so far. They are looking for a designer to take their brand and very vague brand guidelines, and develop these further to create a range of illustrative patterns. They can then use these throughout their packaging, corporate stationery and merchandise.
The only things set in stone so far are their logo, primary typeface and colour palette, so they would like a designer to add their own flare using these limited tools.
Begin with exploring some different pattern styles, experimenting with different textures and techniques. Don't feel you have to go straight to the computer here, maybe play around with different inks, paints, brushes and even collage and mixed media. Remember, however, that this is a commercial brand that needs to have great shelf appeal, as well as be easily distinguishable on competitive shopping websites. Think bold, bright, eye-catching and relatable. The design needs to be something that people would be proud to have in their homes and even travel with, not something that will just be stored away in a cupboard.
Once you are happy with the direction of your pattern work, apply this to a range of product packaging, merchandise and a set of corporate stationery.
