My submission for this brief was made in Affinity Designer. I’m teaching myself to use it by following online tutorials & my own experimenting.
I don’t have any graphic design qualifications so please forgive any errors that may be glaringly obvious to those of you who do!
I wanted to make something that looked like pastry & flour on a kitchen counter with cut out shapes making the lettering & the authors name looking (hopefully) like it was written with a finger tip in the spilled flour.
I would imagine these cut outs as lettering for the recipes inside the book as well. The font I used (and manipulated a little) is called Westside by Artimasa Studio (https://www.behance.net/gallery/54843909/West-Side-Free-Font), the letters seemed to look most like they’d been cut from the “pastry” vector shape.
I found the chef hat icon at The Noun Project (thenounproject.com), and a book cover template (https://writersedit.com/fiction-writing/writers-reality-book-covers/) to help guide the placement/layout (this is shown as a visible layer in the second photo I’ve attached). I also found a few handy bar code generators.
These are the serendipitous lessons I like - finding out & learning something other than the original lesson.
I enjoyed this brief, I started it last night and finished it this afternoon. I’d love to hear any feedback, thanks for looking :)
