For the Iconic Landmark brief, I went with the Unisphere in New York's Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The landmark itself is an iconic piece of art deco architecture, and a symbol of the 1939 and 1964 New York World's Fairs.
Given the intricacy of the statue, I chose to simplify it while retaining the characteristics that make it iconic. The font's uniform line width contrasts with the variability of the iconography, whose variability in turn, draws the eye back down towards the text. Orange and blue, in addition to offering a strong memorable contrast, are the state colors of New York, and colors associated with the marketing of the 1964 fair itself.
