Create an abstract illustration of your favorite place in the world. It might be a city, town, house, room, or beach: anywhere! Illustrating favorite places is a great way to practice your illustration skills and have fun at the same time. We often spend time working on these types of illustrations when we have down time at the studio; it's really satisfying when they start to come to life.
Perhaps begin by brainstorming some initial ideas and creating some mini thumbnails, then experiment with a few alternate style routes before settling on your direction and moving to digital; this brief is a good chance to experiment with some digital techniques.
When researching other people's designs, remember that you need to make sure you're still creating original artwork, and not simply copying other's work. This can be a challenge, as often you will end up getting a little too close to the original artwork; go back to your first sketches to refresh your originality.
Here is a selection of images by awesome designers to give you some creative fuel! Remember don't copy this directly, use them as inspiration only.
