Remember the key focus of infographics is get alot of important information across in a visually engaging manner that the viewer will actually enjoy reading and learning from. For example 100-200 words can easily be portrayed with one short header and an awesome graphic to accompany it if done right. We would suggest showing your initial ideas of first design concept around to see if people can easily understand and get what your infographic is about without having to explain much more.

Project overview:

SH&P are an IP and trademark firm based in Bristol, UK. Alongside their updated brand and new website that has just been built they are looking for in infographic that outlines the importance of IP for freelancers and businesses.

IP meaning Intellectual Property is the way in which freelancers and businesses can protect their brand from any future legal issues that may arise. Issues around company names, icons used within logos and domain names are the general services that an IP firm would assist with whilst helping freelancers and businesses.

We wanted to include this brief not only to help spark your creativity but also for you to learn and research a little more into this issue as it is something that every creative, whether freelancing or setting up a company, will need to deal with at some stage in their career. You can learn loads more about IP from the SH&P website which will give you a good understanding of why it is so important.

For the infographic the client is looking to have a visually engaging, easy to understand design that will encourage the viewer to spend the time reading the content and want to share with others to pass on the message. From this page on the SH&P site you can learn some important facts and stats about IP that you can then look at visualising with the help of icons, graphics and a simple colour palette based on the website and brand itself. The company logo and the content you wish to include can be taken directly from the site itself.

The title of the infographic is 'The importance of IP for freelancers and businesses'

The issue of IP is important and to some can seem quite daunting. The reason they are looking for a designer to create an infographic is to portray the key points about this important issue in a fun, friendly yet professional manner that can appeal to a wide target audience of viewers both young and old.

Our approach

We’ve gone for a clean, visually engaging design. We spent time learning the subject and pulling out some of the key phrases that we could then convey through flat vectors and simple shapes. Try to use our approach as a guide only and create your own version, exploring a slightly different styles for icons, text and other elements to make it your own.

Things to avoid
